College of Education

The College of Education at Idaho State University is committed to teaching the skills necessary to allow their students to become the best educators they can be. The programs are designed to include both practical and intellectual skills so that students may be better prepared for employment upon completion of their degree. The school provides a supportive environment where students can both learn and develop their leadership skills.

Bachelor of Science in Physical Education in Sports Management

A degree in physical education allows students to receive a background in general physical education as well as choose an emphasis such as sports management. The foundation courses involve learning about safety, anatomy and the foundations of physical education. Students who choose a sports management emphasis will take core courses and electives that will help them understand physical education in a sports setting. This emphasis consists of a foundation, but also of many electives like caring for injuries, sports sociology, movement theory and physiology. Another objective of this course is to further develop both leadership and management skills. Classes include sports law, outdoor leadership and conflict management. The last objective for the course is to understand the business surrounding sports management. Students will take classes in accounting, marketing, public relations, statistics, grant writing, organization and civil rights and liberties. Students complete their degree with a 45-hour sports management internship that allows them to practice all of the skills they have spent the previous three years learning in the classroom in a real-life setting.

Lewis-Clark State College

Division of Education and Kinesiology

The Division of Education and Kinesiology and Lewis-Clark State College provides degrees throughout the fields of education and sports studies. The programs offered include Elementary Education, Paraprofessional Education, Kinesiology, Sports Administration and Exercise Science. The division also allows students to choose a Minor option in Literacy, Special Education, Health or Coaching. The Division of Education and Kinesiology prides itself on using both traditional and non-traditional systems of teaching so that students may learn both intellectually and practically and take their transferable skills with them to the workplace.

Bachelor of Arts in Sports Administration

A degree in Sports Administration provides students with the skills and capabilities to have a long and meaningful career in sports. The program provides both a solid foundation of general college courses as well as health courses, business courses, and a senior research project. For students taking the Bachelor of Arts pathway, they must also take 16 credits of a foreign language. Students in this program are required to take both an internship and to create a senior project in which they may focus either on kinesiology or the business management aspect of sports administration. This program is designed to provide students with both the leadership and physical skills to enter the workplace and work successfully in sports administration. The program offers business classes that cover accounting, marketing, human resources and public relations, and it also offers a kinesiology emphasis that can include sports psychology, biomechanics, youth sports and coaching techniques.

Bachelor of Science in Sports Administration

A Bachelor of Science in Sports Administration is designed to work with students to hone both their leadership skills as well as their business skills. Students are provided with a general education foundation, which includes classes in English, mathematics, social sciences and natural sciences. They will simultaneously be taking courses like Fitness & Wellness, Sports Administration, Sports Medication, Drugs and the Athlete and Stress Management. The degree is also designed to support the business side of sports administration, and it includes courses in accounting, statistics, public relations, marketing and human resource management. The course requires the completion of an internship as well as a senior research project so that students who finish their degree will have not only classroom experience but practical experience as well. Students may also specialize within their degree and choose whether to focus on kinesiology or put a larger emphasis on businesses.
