Sport Management Degrees at Wayne State College

The Health, Human Performance, and Sport Department at Wayne State College offers a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in Sport Management and a minor in Sport Management. Both bachelor’s degree options require the completion of 120 credit hours for completion, including 59 hours for the major. The core courses for the bachelor’s degree programs include Intro to Sport Management, Media Relations in Sport, Sport Management Public Relations and Communications, Sport Tourism and Event Management, Facility Management, Ethics in Sport Management, Sport Business, Sport Law, Leadership in Sport Organization, Sport Marketing and Promotion, Sport in American Culture, and Sport Management Practicum. Students must also complete fieldwork in sport management during their senior year in the program.

The minor in Sport Management requires the completion of 20 credit hours. The core courses include Introduction to Sport Management, Media Relations in Sport, Sport Law, Sport Marketing and Promotion, Leadership in Sport Organizations, Sport in American Culture, and Sport Management Practicum.

About Wayne State College

Wayne State College is a public institution of higher learning residing in Wayne, Nebraska. It was established in 1909 as Nebraska State Normal College. It officially opened its doors in 1910 and there were 1,000 students by 1915. It started offering four-year degrees in 1921 and it changed its name to The Nebraska State Teachers College at Wayne. The college officially became Wayne State College in 1963. Today, Wayne State College is home to more than 3,300 students on its rural 128-acre campus. Students are from 36 states and 26 countries. It uses the semester-based academic calendar system.

Wayne State College offers more than 130 undergraduate and four graduate programs in various areas including education, business, pre-professional studies, and arts and sciences. The most popular majors include business administration, elementary education, criminal justice, life sciences, industrial technology, and human service counseling. The graduate programs include business administration, education, and organizational management. Four academic schools within the college offer the degree programs: Arts and Humanities, Business and Technology, Education and Counseling, and Natural and Social Sciences. Fifteen academic departments within these schools house the programs and fields. All programs are dedicated to providing students with hands-on learning experiences. Its campus is home to 24 buildings and all academic structures house more than one smart classroom, also referred to as technology-enhanced classrooms. These classrooms provide innovative opportunities in instruction and learning by incorporating digital and audiovisual technologies and networking. The student to faculty ratio is 19 to one, with about 45 percent of classes with less than 20 students. Nearly 90 percent of faculty members hold terminal degrees in their fields.

The Federal Work-Study program provides students with job opportunities to earn money to help pay for their college education. The money is awarded based on financial need and fund availability. Students are able to work both on and off campus up to 20 hours a week while classes are in session. The pay is at least the current federal minimum wage, but vary on employer, position, and individual qualifications.

Military Tuition Assistance

Students who are members of the military are eligible for both federal and state tuition assistance to help pay for higher education. These students must submit approved documentation of the Tuition Assistance Authorization to Student Financial Services.
