Sports Management Programs at the University of Texas at Tyler

Although there are no degree programs in sports event planning or sports business at Tyler, there are several degree programs in athletic training and wellness at the undergraduate and graduate level as well as a minor in kinesiology.
The Bachelor of Science in Health Science is a 120-credit-hour program that may be earned on one of two tracks. The Health Policy Track is a program that serves people interested in creating and developing policies in health management. The Community and Health Education Track is for people who want to work in several health-oriented professional careers such as athletic training and nutrition. The program includes 42 hours of university general education courses in communications and liberal arts, sciences and mathematics. To earn the degree, students must complete these as well as all major-specific courses and successfully take the Certified Health Education Specialist Exam. There are 13 courses in lower-level courses, 39 in upper-level courses and courses in the track. Sample required courses are Personal and Community Wellness; Anatomy and Physiology plus Lab; Nutrition in Health and Performance and others.
The Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and Athletic Training is also a 120-credit-hour program. Students complete the same university general education requisite plus 16 lower-level and 36 upper-level courses plus 26 cognate area courses. The unique aspect of this program is that students take an 1,800-hour apprenticeship that begins as soon as they start classes. They focus on pregame athlete preparation and injury rehabilitation. Students in the apprenticeship travel with the University of Texas at Tyler teams.
The Minor in Health and Kinesiology requires completion of 18 credit hours including courses such as Fitness Assessment, Care and Prevention and Adaptive Physical Education.
The Bachelor of Arts in Wellness includes an optional major and contains 120 credit-hours. There are 18 lower-level courses such as Personal and Community Wellness; Introduction to Nutrition and Fundamentals of Exercise Science. The wellness core has courses like Nutrition; Motor Development; Fitness Assessment Skills and Behavioral Health. There are 23 hours of prescribed electives in the program or students may take a minor, one of which is Sports Communication.
The Master of Science in Health Sciences contains 36 credit-hours. To be admitted, students must present three letters of recommendation and have a bachelor’s degree in a related field. An interview is also required, along with a statement of purpose. The program may be pursued online or as a hybrid. Some of the required courses in the degree program are Research Design; Biostatistics; Program Design and Evaluation; Global Health; Epidemiology; Theories and Modules in Health Behavior and 12 hours of electives. There is also an internship.
The Master of Science in Kinesiology is a 36-credit-hour graduate program that focuses on exercise science. It is presented completely online or as a hybrid program. Courses in the degree include Research Design; Biostatistics; Motor Learning; Exercise Physiology I and II and Biomechanics. The program includes 12 hours of electives and may be completed in a thesis or non-thesis track.

This university began in 1971 as Tyler State College. It became a university and joined the Texas University system in 1979.
There are seven colleges that award degrees in nursing; education; biology; industrial technology; health and kinesiology; music; economics and more. The school has more than 7,300 undergraduates, and the student-to-faculty ratio is 19:1. Most classes have between 20 and 49 students.

University of Texas Application Requirements
Students applying to this university as freshmen with less than 30 credit-hours of completed college work should apply online using either the Apply Texas or the Common Applications. There is a $75 non-refundable application fee that must be paid at the time the application form is submitted.
Applicants should request their high schools to send, in a sealed envelope, their official transcripts. Additionally, students must arrange to have their official SAT or ACT scores sent to The University of Texas at Tyler.
The online application features prompts that will require an essay and several short responses to questions. There may be other requisites according to the program desired.
Graduate students applying to this university create an online account with the school, then complete the appropriate application. They must arrange for transcripts of their undergraduate work to be sent to the university as well as the results of the GRE, the GMAT or any other assessment tests they are required to take by their departments. Additionally, they will provide letters of recommendation and a statement of purpose as well as any other documents required by their degree department and pay the non-refundable application fee.
Tuition and Financial Aid

Students needing more money to meet their school obligations could take out student loans, but they must exercise caution in the amount of money they borrow; it must all be repaid after graduation. Part-time jobs and work-study participation are great ways to pay for degree programs at the University of Texas at Tyler.
