If you are looking for a private, faith-based degree program, Trevecca Nazarene University may meet your need. The school is located in Nashville, Tennessee and is ranked in the second tier of National Universities by the U.S. News and World Report. Trevecca was founded in 1901 as the Pentecostal Literary and Bible training School. In 1910 it offered its first bachelor degree program and in 1995 Trevecca became a university. The student population is more than 3,000 and class sizes are small, with a student-to-faculty ratio of 17:1; more than 71 percent of classes have fewer than 20 students. Trevecca Nazarene University awards undergraduate degrees in more than 86 programs, including three in sports sciences.

Trevecca Nazarene University Application Requirements
If you are applying to Trevecca as a first-time freshman, you will need to complete an application. It is free to apply online, but there is a $25 non-refundable fee to submit a hard copy application. You will need to have the agency that administered the SAT or ACT, whichever you took, send the official test scores to the school. In addition, you must request that your high school submit your official transcript to Trevecca, along with any college transcripts you received for credits earned through dual-enrollment or concurrent study programs in high school. You must also complete a medical health history and immunization form. There is a $200 enrollment deposit. If you are a graduate student applying to Trevecca, you should complete the online application. There are no GRE or GMAT scores required, but you must have official transcripts submitted for all undergraduate coursework. You are also required to submit a medical health history and immunization form and complete a FAFSA. In addition, individual departments may have other requisites.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Traditional undergraduate students are charged in a block format for 12 to 18 hours. The semester tuition is $11,862. If you are taking less than 12 hours, you will be charged $916 per credit hour. Students taking more than 18 credit hours per semester will pay the block fee of $11,862 plus $850 per credit hour for the additional courses. In addition, school housing costs $2,148 per semester, as does the meal program. There is a student resource fee of $450, making the cost per semester $16,608. Graduate students are charged per semester according to the program they choose. For instance, a master’s degree in business administration will cost $520 per credit hour and an Ed.D. degree costs $699 per credit hour. Trevecca Nazarene University works individually with families to help them budget for the cost of a degree program. In addition, approximately 98 percent of students attending Trevecca receive some kind of financial aid. Every student, whether undergraduate or graduate, should complete the FAFSA form. This federal aid program uses the information you submit about your income and expenses, as well as your family’s if you are a dependent student, to award grants, loans and/or eligibility to participate in work-study programs. Grants do not have to be repaid. Loans do, but the government offers low-interest loans that feature deferred repayment options. In addition, they offer some subsidized loans, which means the government will pay the interest as long as you are current on the principle amount. Tennessee also has several scholarships and grants to encourage students to earn degrees. The Tennessee Hope is a merit-based scholarship, meaning you qualify for it based upon your grades. The Tennessee Student Assistance Award is a needs-based program as is “Aspire.” The Tennessee Promise and General Assembly Merit Award are two more state-sponsored student financial assistance programs. Trevecca Nazarene University has a number of scholarships available too. The McClurken Scholarship is a full-ride opportunity based on merit, but competition is strong. There are other general assistance scholarships and some based on participation in athletics and other programs. The Nazarene Church sponsors a matching funds grant as well. Private individuals often fund scholarships as do service organizations such as Lions International. Corporations fund educational opportunities for students entering certain fields. You can find all of these through Internet searches. If you have applied all of your scholarship and grant money and are still short of the amount you need to meet your financial obligations, you might consider student loans from financial institutions. The interest rates may be higher than those offered by the federal government, but they will be lower than general loans and will still allow deferred repayment.
Student Experience
If you decide to attend Trevecca Nazarene University, you will be enrolled in a school with a close community atmosphere. This is a faith-based institute of higher learning, and it has some rules and restrictions that are intended to foster your Christian experience while you learn. There is, for instance, a freshman curfew of midnight on weekdays and rooms are inspected regularly for cleanliness. The school requires freshmen to attend a percentage of chapel services that are offered as well. Student reviews say that the professors are very accessible and that they are eager to help. One of the programs at the school, the Bachelor of Science in Sports Management, is offered with two concentrations. You can focus on coaching and recreation or earn a BS in Sports Management with emphasis on Sports Ministry. You might choose this concentration if you want to use sports in evangelism. The unique thing about both the bachelor programs is that they offer the education, but with an eye to your Christian development and service. Trevecca is included in tier two of the NCAA Athletic Conference and is a member of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. The school has competitive teams in baseball, golf, soccer, track, cross country and volleyball. There are also many intramural teams on campus. Trevecca has a number of partnerships with other universities that afford students opportunities they would otherwise not have, such as marching band. Although the campus of Trevecca Nazarene University is small and close, Nashville offers other shopping, cultural and recreational opportunities, and is the home of the Tennessee Titans professional football team.
