The Bachelor of Science in Sports Management provides students with a solid understanding of the sports field. Students learn both in and out of the classroom and students participate in internships where they acquire on-site training in recreational areas. A total of 121 credit hours are needed to complete the program. The courses include Methods of Teaching Individual/Dual Activities, Methods of Teaching Team Activities, School and Community Recreation, Organization and Administration of Health, Kinesiology, and Recreation, Personal and Community Health, Kinesiology and Biomechanics, Introduction to Sport Management, Critical Issues in Sport Management, Psychology of Sports, Legal and Ethical Issues in Sports, and Sport Management Practicum. Students must also choose a concentration area in athletic administration, coaching, and sports information.
The Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science prepares students to demonstrate expertise in exercise physiology and exercise testing. The program incorporates health-related fitness programming and clinical experiences. A minimum of 120 credit hours is needed to complete the program. The courses include Therapeutic Exercise, Strength and Conditioning, Exercise Prescription and Fitness Program, Instrumentation and Physiological Assessment, Adapted Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology, Measurement and Evaluation in Health, Kinesiology, and Recreation, and Exercise Science Practicum. The Endorsement in Coaching prepares students to teach high school physical education. The program requires 22 credit hours. The Master of Science in Kinesiology in Coaching is designed to encourage individual change within the professional practice. The degree extends students’ previous knowledge and experiences including an understanding of philosophy and ethics, physical conditioning, growth and development, sport skills and tactics, and administration. The program requires 33 credit hours. Southern Arkansas University is a public institution of higher learning located in Magnolia, Arkansas. It was founded in 1909 as the Third District Agricultural School. It became a junior college in 1925 and changed its name to Magnolia A&M. In 1951, the college became a four-year institution and changed its name to Southern State College.
