The Department of Educational Professions within the College of Education at Frostburg State University offers a Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sport Science. The program promotes health and fitness and students participate in an array of health and science courses that incorporate hands-on experiential learning activities. Students gain a well-rounded education in sport science and students learn about the scientific processes and statistical measurements within fitness and well-being and how to operate exercise facilities. Students study with instructors who are active within the discipline to help students succeed in the field.
The program requires the completion of a total of 76 credit hours, including discipline core courses and courses required in other departments. The core courses include Foundations of Exercise and Sport Science, Methods of Group Exercise Instruction, Foundations of Resistance Training, Nutrition, Biomechanics for Exercise and Sport Science, Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries, Organization and Administration of Exercise and Sport Science, Psychology of Physical Activity, Physiology of Exercise, And Evaluation and Prescription in Fitness. Students also complete a full-time internship and various field experiences.
Graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sport Science are eligible to take the American College of Sports Medicine examination to become a Certified Exercise Physiologist or the National Strength and Conditioning Association certification examination to become a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.

Frostburg State University is a comprehensive, public institution of higher education residing in Frostburg, Maryland. It was established in 1898 as State Normal School No. 2. Classes officially began in 1902 with 57 students and the school awarded its first degrees in 1094. The school became State Teachers College at Frostburg in 1935 and it began offering four-year degrees in education. It started offering master’s degrees in 1960. It became Frostburg State College in 1963 and finally Frostburg State University in 1987. In 1988, the university became a part of the University System of Maryland. It began offering doctoral degrees in 2012. Today, Frostburg State University is home to over 5,600 students on a rural 260-acre campus. It uses the semester-based academic calendar system.
