Emmanuel College technically started in 1919 as a local learning institute that replaced the previously popular mineral springs health resort. Emmanuel College is dedicated to the development of their students’ spiritual and intellectual growth. Emmanuel College offers a solid liberal arts education in a Christian friendly environment. Their educational values are based the Christian concepts of service, integrity, devotion and community. They strive to create positive experiences in Christian environments that promote social values, lifelong spirituality and community service. Emmanuel College’s rural campus is located in Northeast Georgia in the town of Franklin Springs. They are affiliated with the International Pentecostal Holiness Church. Every year, Emmanuel College only averages about 800 students. The student to teacher ratio of 15 to one, so student engagement rates are high, and the acceptance rate is 55 percent.
Emmanuel College’s athletic teams are the Lions and they are a member of the NCAA Division II. Emmanuel College offers over 25 fields of study through their Schools of Arts and Sciences, Business, Education and Christian Ministries. The School of Business offers Bachelors of Arts and Science in Business Administration, with either a Management or Computer Information Systems concentration. The Communication Studies Department offers Bachelors of Arts and Science in Graphic Design, Digital Media and Organizational Communication. The Kinesiology and Sports Management Department offers Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology, specializing in either Pre-Physical Therapy and Pre-Occupational Therapy as well as Sports Management.

Emmanuel College Application Requirements
Incoming freshman must complete an application for admission, submit official high school transcripts and ACT or SAT Scores. Those who have not yet graduated from high school and those who hold a GED must seek special approval. The average incoming freshman has a GPA of 3.0. Homeschooled students must submit their own transcript that resembles an official high school transcript. International students will need to submit their translated transcripts and TOEFL exam scores.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Almost 99 percent of students receive some form of financial aid and 40 percent of students receive discounted rates. Students may qualify for church, athletic, academic and endowment scholarships. Students must complete a FAFSA to quality for Federal Pell Grants, parent PLUS Loan and student Stafford Loans. Local residents may qualify for the HOPE Scholarship or the Georgia Tuition Equalization Grant (GTEG). Full-time tuition, which is 12 to 18 credit hours, is around $9,500 per semester. Room and board is around $3,600 per semester. Part-time students will pay $795 per credit hour. Summer tuition rates are set at $180 per credit hour. Private lessons of 30 minutes will cost about $155 to $350 per week.
Student Experience
One of the most popular programs is the Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Management because it prepares students for exciting career opportunities in various industries. Students gain equal amounts of knowledge in sports and business, so they are prepared to hold management level positions in sport related organizations. Students learn how to apply standard analytical tools to sport situations, how to maintain ethical principles and how to promote professionalism within chaotic and demanding sports environments. Students are exposed to national and global views of the sport industry through studying the interconnecting relationships between culture, society, institutions, commerce and the government. Students are trained to properly identify and respond to managerial problems, commercial demands and interrelationship issues by aligning company strategies, resources and staff together. Students will naturally gain entrepreneurial and business development perspectives through strategically sport business in national contexts.
Students may take business classes in microeconomics, computer applications, financial accounting, organizational management, sports marketing, business law, employee management and media communications. Students may also take classes in kinesiology related to safety, first aid, exercise science, physical education, human anatomy, personal health and sports psychology. For example, a sport business class will expose students to areas like sales, funding and sponsorships. Students will examine the varying distinctions between sport products, management levels, consumer engagement and government oversight. Classes on sport marketing teach students how to analyze marketing problems, develop effective marketing plans and apply marketing techniques to new products. Students may take class in sport sales that focus on things like service strategies, event promotions, contract negotiations and creating effective sales pitches. Class exercises and discussions help students gain an applied understanding of these areas using relevant news and case scenarios.
Students may also take classes in brand management and learn how to drive an athlete’s or team’s image through media, publishing, advertising, social media and public player recognition. Students learn about how to apply brand intelligence to gain market shares, increase customer loyalty and gather sport consumer insights. Students may choose to focus on global sport business, so they will learn about international business principles. As professional teams become more diverse, sports managers must understand global trends, cultural aspects, globalization impacts, internationalization efforts and international marketing challenges. Classes on media and technology will explore the financial, political and economic risks that are posed by social media movements, athlete scandals, poor news coverage and negative press releases. Some students may choose to take an elective in public relations in order to properly handle ethical dimensions, public opinion, new technology and professional sport leagues’ brands.
The Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Management includes an internship that provides supervised on-the-job training that students can use to understand classroom theories and gain business experiences. Students may spend one entire semester working in a business environment, which will help them to learn sport management practices and principles. This degree program also includes a practicum, or field experience, that provides opportunities to gain real-world experience in sport management. Practicums involve students being assigned a mentor who teaches them about sports leadership, management, communication, decision making and customer service. Students must complete satisfactory work under the supervision of qualified professionals and they must also attend mandatory practicum seminars. Graduates of this program go on to become sales, promotions, marketing, media relations, event programming, guest relations and sports information professionals.
Emmanuel College offers students a wide array of activities related to academic clubs, community service, study-abroad programs, local mission trips, leadership training opportunities, student government positions and intramural and intercollegiate sports.
