Sports Management Programs at Tennessee Tech University

Tennessee Tech University offers several options for students who want to study sports management. The first is a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Sports Administration. This is a concentration within the exercise science program. It includes a fitness test and requires that students take and pass this test every year. Students will take both business and exercise science courses, including Lifespan Motor Development, Sport and Exercise Psychology, Ethical Issues in Sport, Computer Applications in Business and Business Legal Environment and Ethics.
A similar major allows students to focus on fitness and wellness. Introduction to Exercise Science, Physical Education and Wellness, Diversity of Life, Anatomy and Physiology, Leadership Development in Exercise Science and Sport and Fundamentals of Communication are some of the courses in this major. It also includes two electives and an option for students to become CPR certified. The university offers pre-professional programs in occupational therapy and athletic training too. Athletic training majors will take kinesiology courses and do an internship. They’ll also take Medical Aspects of Athletic Training, Motor Learning and Assessment in Exercise Science, among other courses.
The university’s Master of Arts (MA) in Exercise Science program includes a concentration in sports management that includes both an internship and five required classes, including Leadership and Management in Sport and Sport Marketing and Promotion. In Legal, Ethical and Risk Issues, students learn about the risks they face when working with athletes. Design and Management of Sport Facilities is another required class that focuses on running a sports business. Research Methods, Seminar in Exercise Science and Assessment in Sport, Physical Education and Wellness are other required classes. Other concentrations in this program include fitness and lifetime wellness and adapted physical education.

About Tennessee Tech University
Tennessee Tech University is one of the nicknames given to the Tennessee Technological University. This is a public university founded in 1915. The University of Dixie opened in Cookeville, Tennessee in the early 20th century and quickly became known as Dixie College. When the college closed due to a lack of students and high costs, it became the property of the state. The state quickly changed its curriculum and reopened the college as the Tennessee Polytechnic Institute. To keep costs low, the institute asked students to participate in farm operations and used some of the land surrounding the campus to grow crops that it served in dining halls. It became Tennessee Tech in 1967 after becoming a full university.
The university’s campus is now home to the Gerald D. Coorts Memorial Arboretum, Hyder-Burks Agricultural Pavilion and Joe L. Evins Appalachian Center for Craft. Students can choose from more than 60 programs, many of which focus on science, engineering, math or technology. More than 9,300 undergrads and more than 1,100 graduate students attend Tennessee Tech every year.
Tennessee Tech University Accreditation Details
Tennessee Tech can help students get all the financial aid that they need for the school year because the university has regional accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). This accreditation is one of the requirements that the Department of Education has for students planning to use the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students can also use SACS accreditation if they want to transfer credits to Tennessee Tech. The university has accreditation from other organizations too for its nutrition, business and education programs that offer classes for exercise science majors.
Tennessee Tech University Application Requirements
Sports management majors applying to Tennessee Tech need a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Those with a GPA of 2.5 or higher can still apply, but they will need to have a minimum score of 17 on the ACT or a matching score on the SAT. The university requires a test score from students with a higher GPA too. Students who are over the age of 21 need a minimum high school GPA of 2.5 and passing grades in Algebra II and US History. The university will waive some of these requirements for students who scored highly on an entrance exam. Students without a high school diploma can also apply if they have a certain score on the GED or an entrance test. Future undergrads can submit their transcripts and test scores after applying online.
The College of Graduate Studies at Tennessee Tech has admissions requirements for graduate students too. It asks that they have a bachelor’s degree and that they apply online. Students need to submit official transcripts from any schools where they earned college or graduate-level credits and letters of recommendation from references who know the student’s academic or professional work. A minimum GPA of 2.5 and a minimum MAT score of 370 are required of students applying to the exercise science program. Tennessee Tech waives these requirements for students with a GPA of 3.75 or higher.
Tuition and Financial Aid
The cost of enrollment for undergrads at Tennessee Tech is $9,750 each year for in-state residents. They pay an average of $2,880 for a dorm room and another $2,403 for a meal plan. Nonresidents pay an extra fee of $9,750, which brings their totals to $17,682 each year. Undergrads who attend Tennessee Tech can submit the financial aid and qualify for loans and grants as well as aid from the university. There are dozens of scholarships that they can get based on both need and merit.
Graduate students take an average of nine credits each semester and pay $5,335 for enrollment as a Tennessee resident. Students attending the university from outside of the state pay $11,907 per term. One of the scholarships available for grad students goes to those who agree to participate in the Tennessee Army ROTA program. It’s open to students who can complete all the ROTC requirements before they turn 29. The diversity fellowship is another option for graduate students who represent a group not typically served by a graduate school. Students can teach or work on research projects up to 20 hours a week and renew their funding as long as they maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher. The university also has an application for students who want to apply for an assistantship. Students in the sports management programs offered by Tennessee Tech University can use all the financial aid that they get every year.
