Sport Management Degrees Offered at Salem College

Salem College offers a minor in sport management, Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration with a concentration in Sport Management or Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Sport Management, Bachelor of Arts in Exercise Science or Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science.
The minor in sport management prepares students for ethical and moral issues in the sports industry. It provides a general overview of sport management, including management in the professional sports franchise, sports marketing and promotions, intercollegiate athletics, athlete representation, sports law, sports tourism, and facilities management. The program requires the completion of at least 18 credit hours. The required courses include Business Statistics, Sport Management, Women in Sport, Sport Marketing, and Internship in Management.
The Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Sport Management link a strong foundation in liberal arts with a solid understanding of the business world. Students gain a sound knowledge of the management of sports and physical activity. Both programs feature the same business and concentration courses, but different general education requirements. The core courses and concentration courses equate to at least 53 credit hours. The sport management concentration courses include Sport Management, Women in Sport, and Sport Marketing.
The Bachelor of Arts in Exercise Science is intended for students with an interest in fitness and wellness seeking to work in corporate settings, personal training, health, or related sport and exercise fields. The Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science is intended for students seeking graduate study in exercise science and related areas. The curriculum for both programs was developed according to the standards established by the American College of Sports Medicine and the National Strength and Conditioning Association. The programs prepare students to take the nationally accredited certification examinations including the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and the Certified Exercise Physiologist. The Bachelor of Arts program requires the completion of at least 15 courses, including 11 exercise science courses. The Bachelor of Science program requires the completion of at least 21 courses, including 12 exercise science courses. The exercise science courses include: Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries, Organization and Administration in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Biomechanics of Sport and Exercise, Measurement, Assessment, and Evaluation of Exercise and Sport, Women on Weights, Science of Strength and Conditioning, Psychology of Sport and Exercise, and Sport in Society.

Salem College is a four-year, private residential women’s college located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. It was established in 1772 and is the oldest educational institution for females in the country. It is the 13th oldest college in the U.S. Today, Salem College is home to more than 1,000 students on its 57-acre campus. It operates on a 4-1-4-based academic calendar.

Federal Work-Study
The Federal Work-Study is a federally funded program that is available for financially needy students to help pay for their college education. Students who are eligible are able to work up to 20 hours per week while they are enrolled in courses. The program encourages students to pursue jobs related to their field of study or those that benefit the community. The pay depends on each student’s circumstances but is at least the federal minimum wage.
