Devoted to Ephesians 4:12, the Bachelor of Science in Sport Management builds atop the Biblical core for Crown College undergrads interested in directing athletic activities. Chaired by Dr. Jon Nykanen, the 125-credit program follows NASM guidelines to train ethical, Christ-centered practitioners for today’s $73.5 billion sports industry. Professors are active mentors thanks to the 18:1 student-faculty ratio. Expect four years of engaging, on-campus courses like Apologetics, Survey of Accounting, Sport Psychology, Principles of Economics, and Recreational Administration. Outstanding students with 3.5 GPAs or better can join the Honors Program for a senior symposium project. All majors must find one internship placement, such as the Minnesota Vikings, St. Paul Saints, Duluth FC, Breezy Point North Stars, Minnesota Twins, Mankato MoonDogs, and Bemidji Axemen.
On campus, Sport Management B.S. majors are actively involved at Crown’s state-of-the-art facilities, including the $2.4 million KleinBank Stadium, Wild Athletic Center, and Softball Field. Attending annual events like the Crash-N-Dash Mud Run, Golf Scramble, and Football Passing League is encouraged. Many belong to the 16 varsity teams competing in the NCAA Division III Upper Midwest Athletic Conference. In 2006, Crown College received its first conference championship title in men’s golf. The St. Bonifacius campus includes an 18-hole professional disc golf course. Sports enthusiasts pick from 25+ organizations, such as Ultimate Frisbee Club, High Altitude Ballooning Club, Outdoor Adventure Club, Mu Kappa, and the Athlete Advisory Committee. Crown College Accreditation Details
In April 2016, Crown College underwent an assurance review to continue its Level V accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association (HLC-NCA) under president Dr. Joel Wiggins. This regional agency in Chicago is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education to check quality and Federal Title-IV eligibility for Crown’s six associate, 41 baccalaureate, and seven master’s majors in St. Bonifacius or online. Crown College is also a member of the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) and registered with the Minnesota Office of Higher Education.
Crown College Application Requirements
Classified as “minimally difficult” by Peterson’s, Crown College had a Fall 2016 acceptance rate of 54 percent. First-year Storm seeking the Bachelor of Science in Sport Management must be at least 17 years old with a high school diploma or GED certificate. Only the Post Secondary Enrollment Option (PSEO) is available to Minnesota high school seniors with minimum 3.25 GPAs. Freshmen must display quality Christian character and commitment to Jesus. Standard acceptance is granted for Crown undergrads with cumulative GPAs over 2.0, but the average is 3.22. Bachelor’s entrants should achieve an 18 ACT score, 940 SAT score, or 54 CLT score. Probationary status is possible if students attend weekly tutoring for a GPA above 1.65 though. Transfers are welcome with up to 80 credits graded “C” or better. Foreign students represent 20 nations with a minimum TOEFL score of 450 or equivalent.
Crown College has rolling admission year-round until the first day of class. However, the $20 application fee is waived if submitted by January 1st. PSEO students must be admitted by July 15th each year. International students also have deadlines of June 15th for Fall and November 15th for Spring semester starts. Full-time Sport Management B.S. majors currently pay $12,865 per semester or $25,730 annually at Crown College. Studying part-time equals $1,070 per credit. Budgets must include the $260 technology fee and $210 wellness fee each year. Online courses are discounted to $450 per credit with a $130 technology fee. Living at the St. Bonifacius campus dorms’ like Strohm or Miller Hall adds $4,430 for basic room and $4,230 for board yearly. Annual cost of bachelor’s attendance is roughly $39,726 for residents and $32,856 for commuters.
