Dorothy M. Bush College of Education
The Dorothy M. Bush College of Education has been offering programs at Dallas Baptist University since 1966. Programs are offered at undergraduate and graduate levels. Sport Management Program
Dallas Baptist University offers a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degree in Sport Management through the Dorothy M. Bush College of Education. Both programs are biblically centered with the BA program requiring a stronger liberal studies focus and the BS degree focusing more on the sciences of sports management. Both programs require 120 credit hours to complete with 46-64 general requirements for the BA program and 36-42 general requirements for the BS program. Graduates have obtained positions in professional, collegiate, interscholastic, civic and ministry areas of the sporting world. Students must be accepted by the Master’s Degree Admission’s Office and must hold a bachelor’s degree or higher. The bachelor’s degree does not have to be in sport management. Students in the Master of Education in Sport and Wellness Leadership program develop critical thinking and analytic skills as well as an ethical knowledge necessary to use sport and wellness to benefit society. Students develop an understanding of the societal role of sports as well as how to allocate resources to best serve athletes and others who are pursuing healthier lifestyles. Students develop an understanding of the legal and ethical aspects of program leadership, promotion along with marketing and the impact the sporting industry has on society. The program consists of ten courses and can be completed in 20 months. Courses are scheduled two evenings each week and may incorporate online sessions. Courses required include:

The Bachelor’s in Sport Management explores basic business concepts related to the sporting industry. Students are provided instruction in marketing, finance, leadership, law and other aspects of the business side of sports. Students must engage in internships to complete the program which is why Rice has developed partnerships with the Houston Astros, Texans, Rockets and Dynamo organizations. Students also have the ability to participate in global programs. Students begin by covering the basic business concepts which are then related to the sporting industry. It is a stand-alone major as opposed to an “area of emphasis” as it is at other colleges in the country. Faculty members in the department have a combined 70 years working in the sporting industry at the college, professional and youth sport level.
